Osteochondrosis is a disease of the spine in which destructive processes occur in the intervertebral discs and tissues. The main cause of the disease is a sedentary lifestyle. To relieve spasms and pain, it is necessary to take Mydocalm for osteochondrosis of the cervical spine.
Mydocalm for cervical osteochondrosis
Indications for use
Mydocalm is a drug whose action is aimed at relieving inflammation and normalizing muscle tone. The drug is prescribed for diseases characterized by the appearance of pain.
Muscle relaxants are prescribed for:
- osteochondrosis of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine;
- arthrosis of the joints;
- spondyloarthrosis;
- injuries and sprains;
- lumbago;
- spondylosis.
The drug is also used to relieve spasms from nervous system disorders and improper brain function. The medicine is taken for stroke, multiple sclerosis, encephalitis and all types of encephalopathy. Myokalm helps with childhood cerebral palsy.
The medicine is used as one of the components of complex treatment of the following vascular diseases:
- Raynaud's disease;
- obliterating atherosclerosis;
- diffuse scleroderma.
How to cure osteochondrosis with muscle relaxants?
Osteochondrosis of the cervical spine is most common. Intervertebral discs lose elasticity, volume, and thickness. The distance between the vertebrae becomes smaller, nerve endings and blood vessels are pinched. Doctors for osteochondrosis prescribe complex therapy, including muscle relaxants.
Need for medications
When the disease occurs, the nerve endings are affected. When irritated, they affect the muscles. A spasm occurs. As muscle fibers contract, the intervertebral distance becomes even smaller, causing pressure on the nerves to increase. The pain becomes stronger, the spasms become more frequent. And so on, in a vicious circle.
To relieve pain, doctors prescribe muscle relaxants. This prevents the formation of a new round of spasm and eliminates the increase in pressure on the nerve endings.
There are 2 types of muscle relaxants (depending on the principle of action):
- Central (they are often prescribed by neurologists);
- Peripheral (drugs are widely used in traumatology).
To reduce pain, central muscle relaxants are prescribed. They are most effective for osteochondrosis of the cervical spine.
Introduction to Medicines
All muscle relaxants prescribed for drug therapy differ in the active substance. There are 3 main components of the drugs:
- Tizanidine;
- Topperison;
- Gamma-aminobutyric acid.
The purpose of the medication is to relieve muscle spasm. When taking morelaxants, the doctor strongly recommends reducing the dose of medications aimed at eliminating inflammation. The new dosage suggests a reduction in the risk of side effects, in particular in the gastrointestinal tract.
Muscle relaxants are not the basis of drug therapy for osteochondrosis, but they harmoniously complement the main drugs. This allows you to quickly achieve a positive effect and prolong remission.
Preparations based on Tolperisone
If the doctor has settled on drugs with an active substance such as tolperisone, then most likely he will prescribe Tolperil or Mydocalm.
Both drugs are similar in indications, contraindications, and side effects. They are prescribed for pathological conditions accompanied by muscle spasms. It's about:
- About spastic paralysis;
- About pyramidal disorders;
- About cervical and lumbar syndromes.
Why are these medications interesting? They can be prescribed to children from 3 months. Among the contraindications:
- Allergy to the components of the medication;
- Myasthenia.
There is no information about overdose - such cases have not been registered.
Active ingredient – Tizanidine
The group of drugs based on Tizanidine includes:
- Tizanil;
- Tizalud;
- Sirdalud;
- Tizanidil-teva.
All medications with the active ingredient Tizanidine are similar. One drug from this group can be replaced by another. They are prescribed in similar situations. The drugs have the same contraindications, side effects.
Indications include diseases of the central nervous system characterized by spasms:
- Consequences of stroke;
- Multiple sclerosis;
- Spastic cerebral palsy;
- Radicular syndromes.
The effect of taking medications based on Tizanidine is the elimination of muscle spasms. Many patients experienced drowsiness after starting treatment. Before using medications, read the contraindications:
- Allergy to main components;
- Taking antidepressants;
- Liver failure;
- Pregnancy;
- Young age.
Muscle relaxants with the active substance – gamma-aminobutyric acid
Doctors most often prescribe Baclofen for:
- Radicular syndromes;
- Hernias that form between the vertebrae;
- Convulsions;
- Impaired cerebral circulation;
- Myoclonia;
- Cerebral palsy.
You should be careful when using the drug by persons who have been diagnosed with delirious states, psychotic syndrome, schizophrenia, delirium syndrome, liver, and kidney failure.

Action of the chemical
The use of Mydocalm for osteochondrosis is due to its analgesic effect. The cervical type of disease and lesions of the lumbar spine cause pinched nerves, which leads to pain and the formation of pathologies. As a result of the disease, the load is transferred from the vertebrae to the muscles. The cervical region is not able to withstand it, which leads to spasms.
Muscle relaxants act on the brain. As a result, the organ gives signals to reduce muscle tension.
The result of treatment of osteochondrosis with Mydocalm:
- relieving muscle tension;
- the appearance of an analgesic effect;
- dilation of blood vessels;
- normalization of blood circulation and metabolism.
You can take Mydocalm for osteochondrosis both in the initial stages and in the acute phase of the disease. The product is fast-acting and well tolerated.
Symptoms of thoracic osteochondrosis
According to the manifested signs, osteochondrosis of this form is similar to diseases of the heart, respiratory system and gastrointestinal tract:
- dorsalgia – constant aching chest pain that occurs with little physical activity and may not stop at night;
- dorsago (chest lumbago) with a deep breath, sudden movements, bending or turning;
- when raising your arm, pain appears between the shoulder blades;
- intercostal pain.
In addition, various areas of the skin become numb, and there may be a feeling of coldness in the legs.
Composition and release form
The product is available in the following forms:
- pills;
- solution for injections.
Myokalm tablets are round in shape with a film coating. They contain different amounts of tolperisone and hydrochloride. Tablets with the number 50 on the surface contain 50 mg of active substances, and the engraving 150 indicates a triple dose.
Excipients are:
- stearic acid;
- titanium dioxide and silicon;
- lactose monohydrate
- microcrystalline cellulose
- citric acid monohydrate;
- dyes.
One package contains 10 units of medicine. The price of tablets is 500-600 rubles.
The solution for injections is produced in ampoules made of darkened glass. A unit of medication contains 100 g of tolperisone and 2.5 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride. The composition additionally uses red, yellow and black iron dioxide. One package contains 5 ampoules.
Mydocalm is available in injections and tablets
Analogs
The price of the product is relatively high. There are substitutes (analogues) that have similar principles of influence, but cost less.

- Miolgin;
- Artosan;
- Sirdalud;
- Bactolofen.
Rules for using the drug
Instructions for use and dosage are prescribed by the doctor, depending on:
- patient conditions and syndromes;
- location of the outbreak of the disease;
- age;
- the presence of other diseases.
The daily dosage for adults is written on the packaging. In the acute stage of osteochondrosis, the use of Mydocalm is increased, but not more than 450 mg per day. The tablets are taken during or after meals.
Children are prescribed only the tablet version. The dosage is prescribed by the doctor.
You cannot use the product in a row for a long time. The maximum duration of treatment is 10 days.
The solution is injected intramuscularly. For intravenous injections, the dosage is halved.
Treatment of thoracic osteochondrosis
At the early stage of osteochondrosis, for a complete cure, it is enough to follow the doctor’s recommendations - do gymnastics and swimming. But if the disease has developed more strongly, then it will have to be treated with stronger means.
The treatment course for osteochondrosis of the thoracic region is designed to stop the destruction of intervertebral discs and restore their structure. Diclofenac, ibuprofen and other non-steroidal drugs are used as anti-inflammatory drugs. Muscle tension is relieved with muscle relaxants (sirdalud or mydocalm). To stabilize the condition, chondroprotectors (glucosamine, chondroitin and others) are prescribed.
In addition to drug treatment, a rehabilitation course will be prescribed, including visits to physiotherapy rooms. Hardware physiotherapy using electromagnetic, ultrasound, and laser effects helps to successfully fight osteochondrosis. Therapeutic massage, mud therapy, taping and exercises in the pool are also recommended.
But conservative treatment does not always help. If the result is not achieved, surgical intervention may be required.
Safety precautions
Contraindications are allergy to lidocaine and high sensitivity to tolperisone. It is also prohibited to take Mydocalm for myasthenia gravis.
In childhood, the drug is rarely prescribed, and children under 1 year of age are prohibited from using the medicine. It is not recommended for pregnant women to take the medicine, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy. This also applies to the period of lactation and breastfeeding.
It is safe to treat cervical osteochondrosis with Mydocalm in combination with other medications. The product is compatible with all medications. It is constantly used together with sedatives, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs without negative consequences.
Side effects
Failure to comply with the rules of use results in the following consequences:
- nausea;
- headache;
- noise in ears;
- dizziness;
- vomit;
- high or low blood pressure;
- tachycardia;
- abdominal pain;
- hives;
- swelling;
- anaphylactic shock.
Side effects are typical for the use of Mydocalm in the form of injections. In this case, switch to tablets. Negative consequences appear when the dosage is increased, in which case normal volumes return. If necessary, treatment is stopped.
Administering the drug using the drip method helps prevent side effects. Although the medicine does not have a sedative effect, drinking alcohol in large quantities during therapy is prohibited.
Overdose and poisoning
In case of an overdose, the patient experiences shortness of breath and brain function is disrupted. In some cases, irritability appears
In case of poisoning, gastric lavage is used and enterosorbents are prescribed. There is no special antidote.
Complications of thoracic osteochondrosis
With inadequate treatment of thoracic osteochondrosis of the spine, complications may develop in the form of the following diseases:
- protrusion;
- spinal hernia;
- kyphosis;
- stenosis;
- radiculitis;
- spinal cord compression.
Often these diseases can only be cured by surgery. To avoid this, you need to go swimming, do gymnastics regularly and strengthen your back muscles.
By visiting our clinic, you can undergo a full course of treatment for thoracic osteochondrosis under the supervision of experienced neurologists.
