Medicines and cosmetics in Vietnam are one of the most popular categories of purchases among tourists. The country's ecosystem includes several thousand plants with healing properties. Perhaps this is precisely the reason that the country’s pharmaceuticals have long been developing in a “natural” rather than a “synthetic” direction.
The basis for most preparations are plants such as Vietnamese red ginseng, artichoke, eurycoma, aloe, ginger, graviola, Linchi mushrooms, lotus seeds. All of the above is not even a hundredth part of the entire diversity of Vietnamese medicinal plants. Still, this list of the most popular items allows you to get a general idea of what you will have to deal with at your local pharmacies.
Cobratoxan ointment
We wrote about Cobratoxan in as much detail as possible in the article “Cobratoxan Ointment: instructions, indications, analogues.”
Now the most popular ointment among those coming to Vietnam is Cobratoxan, the name speaks for itself, it consists of two words cobra and tox - poison. The ointment contains cobra venom in the amount of 0.0005 grams. The king cobra is famous for being one of the three creatures on earth that never get sick, so God’s poor creature is used 100%: they eat meat, add blood to vodka, drink bile, dress their skin, and sell their teeth.
A tube of cobrotoxan is small - 20 grams, so they usually buy a package of 10 tubes. The cost of one tube is about 21,000 dong ($1).
Instructions in Russian are not included with cobrotoxan, only in Vietnamese and English. It is recommended to apply once a day, for acute pain - 2 times, but no more than 10 days in a row, to prevent an overdose.
Do not apply the ointment to wet skin - it will burn severely.
Cobratoxan ointment is a well-known remedy based on snake venom, made in Vietnam. This is a unique combination of ancient traditions of Eastern medicine with innovative pharmaceutical production technologies.
The opportunity to buy Cobratoxan in Russian online pharmacies appeared not so long ago, but in a short time it has gained recognition among the population. Reviews of Cobratoxan confirm the high quality and effectiveness of Vietnamese ointments and balms. The price fully corresponds to its medicinal properties, because the use of Cobratoxan provides the desired result in a fairly short time.
Composition of the drug
According to the instructions, Cobratoxan ointment consists of several components, the combination of which complements and enhances the healing effect of each of them.
- Cobra venom (0.0005 g). The main component of the product with the most valuable properties. The venom of this snake is considered one of the most expensive in the pharmaceutical industry, because the cobra secretes it in minute quantities. The price of Cobratoxan ointment is determined by the content of this particular component. Microdoses of cobra venom can eliminate inflammation, relieve pain, and improve blood microcirculation.
- Salicylic acid methyl ester (2.8 g). Methyl salicylate is one of the dosage forms of salicylic acid, which has properties similar to aspirin: analgesic and anti-inflammatory. It is obtained mainly artificially and is found in willow bark. Methyl salicylate is characterized by a sharp, specific odor and high toxicity (in its pure form).
- Menthol (0.588 g). A travel essential oil of mint that has a strong, fresh aroma. Menthol is known for its sedative, analgesic, and mild antiseptic effect, which is why it is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. It is also capable of constricting peripheral blood vessels, causing a slight sensation of coolness (“menthol freshness”) at the site of application.
- Emulsion substances (20 g). They play a supporting role, facilitating the application and absorption of the drug.
The ointment has a transparent white color and a characteristic odor (due to the content of essential oils). The medicine is released in a tube with a dosage of 20 grams.
The Vietnamese drug has a number of therapeutic effects, having experienced which, buyers do not skimp on positive reviews about Cobratoxan. By reflexively acting on superficial skin receptors, it relieves pain. Penetrating deep into the tissues, the active substances reduce the activity of the inflammatory process.
The therapeutic result is based only on local effects; the percentage of absorption of Cobratoxan ointment does not exceed 10%. Absorbed substances are released into bile and excreted from the body through the intestines.
An ointment based on cobra venom has quite extensive indications for use. According to the manufacturer's instructions, you can buy Cobratoxan to treat the following diseases:
- pathology of joints of traumatic, inflammatory, or degenerative origin (arthritis, arthrosis, synovitis, bursitis, dislocations);
- damage (ruptures) of the menisci;
- osteochondrosis in the acute and chronic stages (sciatica of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine);
- neuro-reflex syndromes (sciatica, cervicobrachialgia);
- inflammatory processes in muscles (myositis);
- damage to nerve endings (neuritis, neuralgia);
- damage to the musculoskeletal system due to intense sports loads (strains);
- pathological muscle spasms: torticollis (damage to the sternocleidomastoid muscle), cramps (painful cramps of the lower leg muscles).
Regardless of the nature of the pathological process, the medicine provides a worthy therapeutic result. This is confirmed by positive reviews about Cobratoxan on the websites of Vietnamese online stores, which have already tested the healing properties of its composition.
Cobratoxan ointment is used externally on clean and dry skin. A small amount of the drug (approximately the size of a match head in diameter) is applied to the surface of the dermis over the sore spot and rubbed in with light massaging movements until completely absorbed.
- • The optimal course of treatment is no more than 10 days.
- • Use the medicine twice a day after an equal amount of time.
- • Two to three grams of ointment should be applied per application.
- • One tube is enough for 3-4 days.
Since Cobratoxan contains microdoses of cobra venom (in its pure form it is a potent toxin), it can have a locally irritating effect. Avoid contact of the product with mucous membranes and damaged skin surfaces. After applying the ointment, hands should be washed thoroughly with soap, or rubber gloves should be used. The use of Cobratoxan internally is unacceptable.
In order to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect, while avoiding possible side effects from Cobratoxan ointment, the instructions for use must be strictly followed.
Contraindications
In some cases, the use of Cobratoxan is not recommended:
- * Damage to the skin surface at the site of application (abrasions, scratches, burns, ulcers).
- * Inflammatory purulent skin diseases (furuncle, abscess).
- * Allergy (individual intolerance) to ointment components.
- * During pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- * In children under 5 years of age.

special instructions
An overdose of Cobratoxan may cause side effects: burning sensation, redness of the skin, or rashes in the form of vesicles and pustules. In this situation, the remaining product should be removed with a cotton swab soaked in Vaseline (it can be replaced with any greasy cream) and seek professional medical advice.
A unique drug from Vietnam can be purchased in our online store Iz-Vietnam.ru with delivery throughout the country. The price of Cobratoxan does not exceed the average cost of its Russian analogues.

In Vietnam, in every city there are pharmacies , and if the city is a resort, such as Nha Trang, then pharmacies are found on every corner. Often in tourist areas, pharmacy employees and pharmacists speak Russian, and Vietnamese medicines are on the shelves with translations into Russian for our compatriots.
What to buy in Nha Trang pharmacies?
In Nha Trang pharmacies, in addition to the drugs that are common in Russia (Smecta, Nurofen, paracetamol, panthenol, Panadol, Immodium, etc.), there are local drugs that are of high quality because they are made with herbs and using various natural ingredients. Many people get lost in pharmacies and don’t know what Vietnamese drugs (ointments, rubs, balms, tablets) to buy to treat joints, or for burns, or for motion sickness, etc.
In this article I will talk about my acquisitions and their application . Our Vietnamese friend helped us make all the purchases on my list; he simply stopped at a pharmacy for locals and brought a whole package of medicines, which were very, very cheap in cost (with the exception of one medicine, which I will talk about below).
I would like to draw your attention, friends, that prices for the same medicine in different pharmacies may vary, and also that in the tourist center, of course, the highest prices. Therefore, if you need to bring home a lot of Vietnamese medicines, then it is better to go to the State Pharmacy away from the center , but pay attention to how the medicines are stored in the room, whether there is air conditioning, whether there is centuries-old dust on the shelves and, be sure to look at expiration dates of a particular drug. All deadlines are usually indicated on the packaging.
The range of medicines in most pharmacies in Nha Trang is similar, only prices may differ. And I draw your attention to the fact that some drugs in pharmacies can be bought in small wholesale, that is, for example, not one tube of ointment, but a pack of ten tubes. This is convenient and profitable, especially if you plan to bring such useful gifts from Vietnam .
1. Hong Linh Cot (Hong Linh Cot) is an ointment with cobra venom (and also contains: menthol, mint oil, clove oil, camphor oil, aromatic natural additives), effective for joint pain, arthritis, rheumatism, osteochondrosis , muscle pain, sprains after physical activity, helps speed up the healing of bruises (but it should not be applied to wounds and abrasions!), and also helps relieve numbness in the back of the head, fatigue in the back and shoulders.
You can rub your temples for headaches, and also lubricate areas after mosquito bites. You need to rub dry skin several times a day until completely absorbed. At the same time, do not touch your eyes and mucous membranes! It is not recommended for children under 6 years of age, as well as pregnant and nursing mothers.
2. Thien Thao Balm looks like a Vietnamese starfish. It contains: salicylic acid methyl ester, peppermint oil, menthol, camphor and eucalyptus oil.
Pleasant aroma. It is used for dizziness, nasal congestion (you need to smear the wings of the nose), after insect bites, for lumbosacral radiculitis, for muscle pain. Apply to dry skin and rub in. It is not recommended for children under 5 years of age, as well as pregnant and nursing mothers.
3. Pocket inhalers . I met them back in Thailand and immediately fell in love with them. I’ve seen how Thai taxi drivers can practically not take them out of their noses.
Inhalers are different, with different compositions, but the principle is the same: relieve nasal congestion, relieve headaches, help with motion sickness on the road, or simply kill the unpleasant odor that can often be felt in Southeast Asia.
These inhalers easily fit in your pocket or purse. Contains: menthol, camphor, eucalyptus oil, borneol and natural essential oils.
There are two-in-one inhalers, when the upper part is used for the nose, and the lower part is unscrewed (there is liquid there) and you can, for example, rub your temples with it, or lubricate the site of a mosquito bite to relieve itching.
If the inhaler is used frequently, it wears out, then you just need to replace it with a new one. It's very cheap!
4. Python fat (MO TRAN) is an excellent remedy for all types of burns (water, steam, sun) and frostbite. Tested for yourself! Hot vegetable oil got on my hand while frying, the pain immediately began, I anointed the affected area with python fat and the pain instantly went away.
There is only one minus - there is not much product in the bottle, but it costs pennies, so feel free to take several. In cold regions of Russia, in order to prevent frostbite in severe frost, before going outside you need to apply this fat, grind it and wait until it is completely absorbed.
5. Glucosamine . I bought it for an elderly person with joint problems. At the pharmacy, our Vietnamese was told that there is glucosamine, but not the one that is sold everywhere in Vietnam, but an improved one, produced in the USA.
It costs more, but the quality is better. He took it for us and, as it turned out, not in vain! The drug is excellent! The jar is very large, you can drink it in one course (2 tablets 2 times a day), or you can take it with a break, that is, divide it in half and drink one part first, then take a break and drink the other part. There is an effect! Joint problems are already a thing of the past. We looked for a similar drug in Russia (Moscow), but did not find it.
In a package with medicines, it is the most expensive - about 600 thousand dong (approximately 1.7 thousand rubles). The drug is useful for everyone who suffers from joints, has problems with ligaments, osteoarthritis and just older people.
Unfortunately, at the moment ( November 2021 ) this drug can no longer be found in the best pharmacies in Nha Trang.
6. For an elderly relative (from arthrosis), Joint Flex Extra with glucosamine . Cost 170 thousand dong. For the full course you need to take two packages. They promise that this drug is as good for joints as the remedy above.
7. Tamanu oil 100% . It is obtained from the seeds of the Tamanu tree, or Alexandrian laurel, which grows in Southeast Asia. Has anti-inflammatory and restorative effects. Heals wounds, burns, scars, stitches, rashes, herpes, irritations, inflammations and insect bites. Restores damaged capillaries.
I don’t really like the smell, but it absorbs well into the skin, although at first glance it seems very greasy. It can be used as a base, or it can be added to creams and masks, thereby enriching them. I like the oil, I add it to face cream, hand cream, and hair masks. After opening, store in the refrigerator in a closed box. Shelf life up to one year.
8. Cobratoxan with snake venom. This ointment is suitable for the treatment of radiculitis, traumatic and inflammatory processes in joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles.
The smell is light menthol, contains cobra venom, menthol and salicylic acid ester. It should be applied once a day to dry skin (without abrasions or wounds) and rub in. If the pain is severe, then you can rub the ointment in twice a day, but the course should not exceed ten days. This is probably the most common and frequently purchased drug of all in Vietnam. Athletes love to use it.
9. Balm White Tiger . It contains menthol solutions, peppermint oil, camphor oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, sandalwood oil, ethyl salicylate, and the filler is petroleum jelly and emulsion wax. Smells nice!
The balm has a warming effect, improves joint mobility, has an anti-edematous effect, relieves inflammation and muscle fatigue, and helps restore cartilage and connective tissue.
Used for diseases of the musculoskeletal system: joints, radiculitis, lumbago, rheumatism, sprains, post-traumatic syndrome, muscle and neuralgic pain. Easy to use - apply a small amount to dry skin (without wounds or abrasions) and rub in for at least five minutes, repeat several times a day. Avoid contact with mucous membranes. For children under seven years of age, it is better to mix this balm with baby cream.
10. Eucalyptus oil (Dau Khuynh Diep) is rich in various uses. It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, helps with rheumatism, coughs, colds, has antipyretic properties, and cleanses the skin with acne.
You can not only rub it all over the body (including use on the face, enriching the cream with it), but also gargle with a sore throat, freshen the air, thereby repelling insects. There are many ways to use this oil. The aroma is pleasant, the liquid is green in color, but the glass bottle is very small.
Ingredients: eucalyptol, camphor, paraffin oils and green chlorophyll.
11. Thien Thao oil is a green medicinal oil that helps in the treatment of colds, coughs, runny nose, headaches, dizziness, nausea on the road, and inflammation from various insect bites. Inside is a glass bottle and instructions with visual pictures of where to use it.
The aroma is herbal, consumption is minimal, the bottle lasts a long time. Apply literally a drop of oil and rub in, it is absorbed quickly, has a warming effect, and leaves no traces. Do not apply to damaged skin and use externally only. It is contraindicated for newborns!
The composition contains menthol, salicylic acid ester, eucalyptus oil, mint oil, clove oil and organic additives.
12. Dau Phong Thap Gung Ginger Oil in a beautiful bottle with a picture of the Hanoi Pagoda on one pillar. It is an analgesic and healing agent, it also helps with hair loss, tightens pores and helps improve skin tone and eliminate inflammation.
Contains ginger extract, which perfectly stimulates blood circulation. The oil can be added to foot baths and steamed before bed. Massage relieves fatigue and numbness. This oil can be added to any base oil, such as coconut oil, and massaged into the body. It helps well with muscle strains.
Use with caution if you have sensitive skin, try testing it on the elbow crook of your arm first. In addition to ginger, it contains menthol, camphor oil, white basil oil, cinnamon oil and water lily oil. Do not use for small children, pregnant or nursing mothers. Use only externally.
13. SALONPAS Gel is an excellent Vietnamese pain relieving ointment in gel form. But Salonpas is produced in different forms - gel, patch, liquid. I haven’t tried the patch, but the gel and liquid with a roller are a very effective remedy, it relaxes tired muscles and promotes their regeneration.
Contains essential oils that are absorbed through the skin, which is why such a quick result occurs. Can be used by children over 12 years of age and adults, apply several times a day.
14. Set of cold remedies : LOZENA syrup with echinacea, XOANG herbal nasal spray and VINA HO spray for the treatment of herbal throat diseases.
Syrup and throat spray are 50 thousand VND each, and nasal spray is 15 thousand VND. I bought it at the pharmacy for the locals.
I caught a cold (sore throat, cough, stuffy nose), went to the pharmacy and took herbal remedies for treatment. Within a couple of days I felt much better. XOANG spray was highly recommended by our Vietnamese friend.
15. Vitamins for hair strengthening and growth Green Hair Hoa Sen. This is a dietary supplement. Contains B vitamins, as well as vitamins A, D, E, K, C. I bought it when I noticed frequent hair loss. There are 60 capsules in a package, I took 2 a day for a month. Combined with hair masks (2 times a week). As a result, I noticed some improvement.
Vitamins for hair. Vietnam.
In a pharmacy for locals, a package costs 170 thousand dong, in the European Quarter it is 100 thousand dong more expensive, in Russia about 2 thousand rubles.
Eugica Fort capsules (red - the most powerful).
Eugica Fort.
There are green capsules (softer). This is a dietary supplement with a unique natural composition, combining essential oils and plant extracts : eucalyptus, menthol, ginger, aromatic spurs, cajeput oil. The capsules are soft, you can simply wash them down with water, or you can wait for them to dissolve in the mouth for the fastest release of the active ingredients.

It is an analogue of the Russian antibiotic Amoxicillin. Don’t forget, friends, that antibiotics must be taken for at least 7 days and this course must not be interrupted!
18. Medicine for the treatment and restoration of the liver - Naturen-Z . It was developed by leading biochemical scientists, certified by the country's Ministry of Health, and a few years after its use, this drug received an award from the Vietnamese Ministry of Science. I bought it for elderly relatives. For the full course you need 2 packages, the cost of one package for 1.5 months is 220 thousand dong.

Aloe vera
The next most popular ointment is aloe vera extract. Most often it is sold in jars as in the photo, but it also comes in smaller tubes. Aloe is not a Vietnamese ointment; it is produced in South Korea.
Please note Aloe comes in 92% and 100% percentages. The price for a jar of 100% aloe is higher, ranging from 100 to 250 thousand dong. Sold in all pharmacies and shopping centers.
It is used to restore skin, it helps very well with sunburn, which is probably why it is sold so actively.
We bought aloe in both Vietnam and South Korea, the contents seem to be the same, but the packaging is different in appearance; nowhere in Vietnam did we find packaging with a hologram, like on Korean cans.
So most likely All aloe in Vietnam is either counterfeit or fake. But I repeat, the contents are the same, so take it, because the main thing is that it helps.
Vietnamese cosmetics
The cosmetics industry in Vietnam has been actively developing since 2008, when the country received conditional certification of cosmetic products at the global level. Now Vietnamese beauty products are gradually conquering the world, featuring high quality and affordable prices. And in Vietnam you can buy good goods even cheaper than anywhere else.
It is impossible to cover the entire wealth of Vietnamese cosmetic products in one article. But I will give some good examples of what you should pay attention to, and also tell you about the best cosmetics manufacturers in the country.
Unlike medicines, here we will talk not only about specific products, but also about the brands that produce them. There are a number of companies in Vietnam whose cosmetics deserve attention.
I will tell you about them below.
1. Thorakao
The most popular brand of Vietnamese cosmetics among both locals and visiting tourists. The quality of the products and the wide range correspond to the status of the sou.
Here are the Thorakao products I recommend purchasing:
- Shampoo Cao Bồ Kết In general, the company has a whole line of shampoos. Special attention to shampoo made from saponin pods and natural herbal extracts. - Hand cream Kem Thoa Tay and foot cream Nứt gót chân Russian tourists speak well of the softening hand and foot creams of this brand; their cost fluctuates around 25,000-30,000 VND for tubes (50 or 80 ml). Here you can see reviews about the use of creams.
- Collagen Curcuma Cream Thorakao’s “signature” product deserves special attention – face cream with turmeric. This is a universal anti-aging skin cream that makes it elastic, evens out wrinkles, tone and texture of the face, and removes acne. A 30 gram jar costs an average of 85,000 VND. Read reviews about the cream here
- Kem Ngừa Mụn And this is a specialized face cream for acne and oily skin care. The average cost is 70,000 VND for a similar jar.
- Kem Sâm Research shows that ginseng extract restores skin elasticity. The company took this issue seriously and released a specialized anti-wrinkle cream that, as they say, “works wonders.” Or, more objectively, it is one of the best Vietnamese products of its kind. And the price of a small jar is only about 20,000 dong.
- Ốc Sên Ban Ngày The composition and purpose of the Day Snail cream are fully contained in the name. This is a daily use day cream that contains snail mucus. You can read more about the products of this brand on the official website.
2. Other brands worth considering
I propose to briefly consider other cosmetics manufacturers in Vietnam. These are small “home” manufactories that religiously adhere to the unspoken standards of “naturalness” of cosmetics in this country.
So here they are.
- Nau Nau Quite a young brand of vapors from perfume expert Huynh Hai Yen. The main idea is to embody the “aroma of life” in products, which is helped by a number of natural ingredients. Among them are both typical Vietnamese and non-standard ingredients: olive oil, peanut oil, Turkish rose, beeswax. The collection of moisturizing lip balms deserves special attention. Official website: https://www.naunau.vn/
- Skinna Another brand of organic products. Each product contains 70-95% natural ingredients. The range covers skin care products of all types: cleansers, serums, body creams, lip care and makeup. Special emphasis is placed on the use of eggshells and turmeric in products. Official website: https://theskinna.com/
- A Banker's Secret The history of the brand began when its founder realized her true recognition. After leaving a successful job in banking, she devoted herself to the production of personal beauty products. And the love for the business paid off, allowing A Banker's Secret to win a wide audience. Initially, the brand produced aromatic soaps, then lipsticks, oils, scrubs and masks were added. I recommend paying special attention to hand creams, ginger facial scrub and rosehip oil (from seeds). Official website: https://www.abankersecret.com/
- The Herbal Cup The brand is only a few years old, but its initial responsible approach determined its success. The brand produces 100% organic beauty products, including those made from tea tree leaves, tomatoes, and sesame seeds. In the assortment you will discover a number of body lotions, scrubs, cleansing masks and gels, and lipsticks. There were also branded products. For example, pine and orange wax oils help relieve stress and ensure healthy sleep. The brand provides free skin care consultations to everyone.
- Herpas Official website: https://www.facebook.com/herpasvn/ The history of Herpas began with the desire of the creator to introduce Vietnamese people to buying quality Vietnamese goods. It took several years of research into the properties of various natural components before the first Herpas products went on sale. But the results - the combination of natural ingredients in a wide range of beauty products - exceed all expectations. Official website: https://www.theherbalcup.vn/
So, here are the main products and brands that I wanted to draw your attention to. Of course, you can also find foreign brands (both European and from other Asian countries) in shop windows. But in this article we only talked about Vietnamese goods.

On this page you can choose and buy Vietnamese balms or ointments for joints.
The Vietnamese medicinal spray Con Xoa Bop is a must-have in every first aid kit: the medicinal substances included in the drug effectively eliminate pain.
Highly effective Con Xoa Bop rub tincture from Vietnam helps relieve painful conditions caused by inflammatory processes in the joints and cartilage.
Gentri Sone Cream, produced in Vietnam, is intended for the treatment of various skin diseases. This high-quality Vietnamese ointment can help.
Strange as it may seem, Vietnamese medicinal drugs are very popular in our country; almost everyone in their home had or has a drug from this exotic country. The Zvezdochka balm, known to everyone since Soviet times, comes from here. Many of us have used this ointment for headaches or against colds, but not everyone knows that this remedy can also relieve joint pain. However, like many other Vietnamese ointments for joints, which we will now talk about.
Such drugs not only become a trophy for tourists vacationing in Vietnam, but are increasingly found in Russian pharmacies. Based on this fact alone, one can conclude that such exotic remedies are effective.
The products made in this Asian country are universal: they relieve pain, eliminate inflammation, and have a warming effect. Ointments for joints from Vietnam can be used to treat not only the musculoskeletal system, but also other parts of the body. These are mainly warming agents containing snake venom and extracts of “burning” plants.
Ointments for the treatment of joints from Vietnam are made mainly from natural ingredients and are inexpensive. They are used for various diseases and joint injuries. However, they are not recommended for use in cases of inflammatory joint diseases, such as arthritis. Like other warming agents, Vietnamese ointment for joint pain in such diseases is applied during the period of remission.
The drug Hong Linh Cot, which we call “Red Dragon”, is a very popular ointment for joints in Russia from Vietnam. It is a good pain reliever for arthritis, arthrosis, and bruises. The main components are dried cobra venom, methyl salicylate, menthol, peppermint oil. Apply with light movements to the damaged joint three times a day.
Cobratoxan - Cobratoxan, as the name suggests, is an ointment for joints, which in Vietnam is made from cobra venom. Also an effective remedy for joint and back pain, the cost is approximately the same as that of the Red Dragon. You can buy it not only in Russia, but also in other CIS countries. According to reviews, it is a very effective remedy that eliminates pain for a long time.
Kapkotoks is a unique product created on the basis of the venom of several species of snakes at once. King cobra, white-lipped keffiyeh, and green boiga “shared” their poison to create an effective remedy for joints from Vietnam. The composition also includes methysalicylate and menthol, which only enhances the anesthetic properties of the drug. This is a stronger remedy than Cobratoxan, which is also very common in our pharmacies.
Najatox – Najatox contains cobra venom, is a good pain reliever and warms. Can be applied 1-2 times a day, use twice if the pain is severe. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with other ointments with snake venom for joints and back.
Vietnamese ointment for joints White Tiger, unlike those described above, has a cooling effect. A balm was created based on menthol, mint oil, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and also contains methyl salicylate. The drug is a good pain reliever and helps relieve pain in many joint diseases. This Vietnamese ointment is effective for arthritis, arthrosis, and bursitis.
On the Internet you can find many positive responses to such drugs. Users, first of all, are satisfied with the analgesic effect and relatively low cost, especially if you purchase the composition in Vietnam.
Generally, joint ointment from Vietnam has positive reviews; the effectiveness of the product is noted by almost everyone who has used it. Of course, they do not eliminate the cause of the disease, but when pain interferes with our motor activity, you will say “thank you very much” even for the opportunity to forget about the unpleasant sensations for a while.
Everyone who has used the ointment notes an unusual, bright smell. Some people like the smell, but most people find it off-putting. Also, everyone emphasizes a strong burning and tingling sensation at the site of application of the drug. Well, this is due to its composition, which provides the analgesic effect.
Composition of the drug
In the manufacture of Vietnamese preparations for joints, herbs, fruit and vegetable extracts, essential oils of plants and other natural remedies are used. Many of these drugs are multifunctional; the same ointment can be used not only to treat joints, but also sprains, insect bites, headaches or colds.
The main component present in Vietnamese ointments or joint balms is cobra venom. Menthol or its essential oils are also common. Both ingredients are indispensable for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, which are not so difficult to obtain in Vietnam. Also, the ointment for joints necessarily includes the following components:
- mint oil;
- salicylic acid;
- camphor.
As additional components, clove oil, eucalyptus oil, tamanu oil, cinnamon oil, ginger oil, sandalwood oil, petroleum jelly, and emulsion wax are used. The composition helps cobra venom penetrate the affected area faster. A nice bonus is that many medications have instructions in Russian, which describe in detail the composition and method of use.
What you need to know
Ointments and balms for joints, ligaments and muscles, which are produced in Vietnam, Thailand and South Korea, have an impeccable composition. The main ingredients are essential oils, extracts of medicinal plants, cobra and scorpion venoms, and bear bile. The composition may contain heating or cooling components.
Ointments and balms quickly improve well-being after sports training or hard physical work. All products are suitable for recovery from injuries (bruises, sprains, fractures), as well as for alleviating chronic diseases of the joints and spine (arthritis, arthrosis, osteoporosis, osteochondrosis, myositis, radiculitis, and so on).
Natural ointments and balms act locally: improve blood circulation, relieve inflammation, tension and stiffness of joints, and reduce pain. In this case, the components are not absorbed into the blood and therefore do not overload the liver and other internal organs.
White Tiger
White Tiger, despite its name, does not contain components extracted from tiger, only vegetable oils (menthol, mint, cinnamon, sandalwood, etc.)
This is not more of a healing ointment, but a balm. White Tiger relieves pain and improves blood circulation and joint mobility, has an anti-edematous effect, relieves inflammation and muscle fatigue, and promotes the restoration of cartilage and connective tissue.
It is used for pain of the musculoskeletal system: joints, radiculitis, lumbago, rheumatism, sprains, post-traumatic syndrome, muscle and neuralgic pain.
Directions for use: Apply a thin layer of balm to the skin and rub in with massage movements for five minutes.
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use on open wounds and acute purulent inflammation of the skin.
Price from 20,000 to 30,000 VDN.
The red tiger is stronger than the white one, it is a warming balm. Red Tiger can be used to warm up muscles before sports activities, improve blood circulation during injuries, and warm up during colds.
Medicines
Next, I will talk about the most popular drugs based on them. In other words, about everything that is worth taking home if possible and/or necessary.
For external use
Below is a list of the best products designed for rubbing on the skin.
1. Cobratoxan
One of the most famous miracles of the Vietnamese pharmaceutical market. This is an ointment based on the deadly venom of cobra, it is intended to relieve pain in the back and joints. Recommended for use in cases of radiculitis, severe physical exertion, and injuries. The peculiarity of poison as a healing component is its ability to penetrate deeply into tissues. And the symptoms quickly disappear.
The ointment contains:
- 0.5 mg of snake venom – it has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect
- menthol (588 mg) – antiseptic and analgesic
- Methyl salicylate (2.8 g) - has an effect similar to snake venom
For the average person, 15 mg of cobra venom is considered a lethal dose. As you can see, cobratoxane contains significantly less of it. However, when using the ointment, it is strongly recommended to use gloves and not rub it on damaged areas of the skin. In addition, the drug is contraindicated in open forms of tuberculosis, allergies, renal and liver failure, as well as blood diseases. Cobratoxan should not be used during pregnancy; children over 5 years of age are allowed to use the ointment.

On sale you will find tubes of 20 grams. One tube costs about 20,000-25,000 VND.
2. Najatox
An alternative to the more “hyped” Cobratoxan, which has similar composition, properties and quality of action. There are two differences: the volume of the tube is 2 times larger, and the cost is even cheaper. 1 tube of Nayatox will cost you less than 23,000 VND.
Unlike cobratoxan, this ointment also contains camphor, eucalyptus oil, petroleum jelly and beeswax.
The ointment has a stronger effect than morphine, but, unlike the latter, it is not addictive.
I recommend reading the reviews before purchasing.
3. White Tiger (Bach ho hoat lac cao, or White Tiger Balm)
A balm similar to Cobratoxan and Nayatox in terms of specific application. At the same time, it does not contain snake venom and gives a less pronounced analgesic effect. It is widespread not only in Vietnam, but also in Thailand, as well as in China.
The ointment contains:
- Camphor oil
- Eucalyptus oil
- Cinnamon extract
- Peppermint oil
- Clove oil
- Menthol
- Methyl salicylate
The ointment is recommended not for the treatment of specific injuries, but for eliminating the symptoms of fatigue. Suitable, for example, for those who lead an active lifestyle, walk a lot or play sports. Can be mixed with massage oil in small quantities. In addition, this balm relieves headaches, helps treat colds and rhinitis, and alleviates the consequences of insect bites.
The average cost of a package (20 grams) is 30,000 VND.
You can read reviews of the White Tiger here
There is also a slightly stronger analogue on sale - K red dragon. More about him later.
4. Red Dragon (Hong Linh Cot)
Another analogue of Cobratoxan and Nayatox. But, unlike the White Tiger, it has a more aggressive effect. It is better to use it on the recommendation of a doctor - for the treatment of severe inflammation and sprains, as well as problematic cases of arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteochondrosis, radiculitis. Also effective for preventive purposes against old injuries.
The composition is very similar to White Tiger: it does not contain eucalyptus, clove oils and cinnamon extract, but it contains cobra venom.
It comes in a bright red package with a snake - you won’t confuse it with anything else. Inside the box there is a 20 gram glass jar with a similar label.
The average price is 80,000-95,000 dong.
You can read reviews about using the Red Dragon here
5. Bach Xa
In terms of composition, specific application and average price, this balm is indistinguishable from Hong Linh Cot. If you come across such a name, you can safely buy it. For example, local residents often prefer Bach Xa.
6. Golden star (Cao Sao vàng, or Golden star balm)
An ointment that in Russia is affectionately called “Zvezdochka”. This is an effective anti-cold remedy that was widely popular back in the Soviet Union. It is still sold here today, and in Vietnam not a single family first aid kit can do without it. It is believed that rubbing it at the first symptoms of a cold helps to quickly recover. Also used to treat influenza and the consequences of mosquito bites. Although in fact there are many more ways to use it: the balm is used to relieve various types of pain, swelling, cough, and to get rid of calluses. Even in aromatherapy, “Zvezdochka” has found wide application.
Classic ointment in a hard-to-open jar contains the following components:
- Menthol
- Camphor
- Peppermint oil
- Eucalyptus oil
- Clove oil
- Cinnamon oil
- Vaseline oil
- Petrolatum
- Beeswax
- Paraffin
- Lanolin
“Star” is also sold in the form of a balm, nasal drops, a pencil for inhalation, and even a patch. They all differ in composition (they have fewer components). As a gift, it is better to purchase the canned version - it is more recognizable.
“Zvezdochka” has almost no contraindications. It should not be used during pregnancy, as well as for asthma and allergies. For children, the ointment is used only after 2 years. It should only be rubbed externally, avoiding contact with mucous membranes and wounds.
You can read reviews about this drug here
The average cost of “Zvezdochka” in pharmacies is 30,000 dong. The ointment is also available in Russia, but here it costs about 30% more. In addition, there are many analogues under different names, but this is no longer the same classic balm.
7. Kedermfa
Anti-burn (thermal and chemical burns) ointment, which can also be used to nourish cracked, severely dry skin and fungal diseases. The product is based on python fat. It is also widely used in Vietnam to treat lichen, eczema, boils of various origins, and mosquito bites. Quickly relieves acute symptoms of pain and itching.
It contains ketoconazole (treats skin diseases) and neomycin sulfate (to relieve the effects of burns and eczema).
As with other ointments based on snake venom, you should avoid getting the drug on mucous membranes and wounds.
The price of a 5 gram tube is approximately 12,000 VND.
Read reviews of this ointment here
You can also purchase an analogue of this ointment, Mo Tran, which will cost 100 thousand VND (~$4.4) for a 120 g tube, or a specialized anti-burn ointment “Aloe Vera”. This is a South Korean product, but you can buy the ointment at any pharmacy. The price of 300 grams of packaging is 100,000-250,000 VND. The price greatly depends on the concentration - 92% and 100% versions of the ointment are available for sale.
8. Green Hair Hoa Sen
A product for hair growth and strengthening, one of the most popular in Vietnam. Includes a number of herbs (does not contain third-party components - only natural extracts) that provide proper nutrition to problematic hair and stimulates the work of diseased hair follicles. Hair color is partially restored due to the restoration of melanin pigments.
The effect of the drug is to increase blood flow to the capillaries at the hair roots. The composition includes vitamins A, B1-B12, C, E, D and K. They prevent hair diseases and also strengthen its structure.
The cost is about 270,000 VND for a jar containing 60 tablets.
Reviews about the effect of this drug can be found here
For indoor use
In addition to ointments and balms, you can find various medicines in Vietnam. Below I will describe the most popular ones, but I want to warn you right away: before taking any of them, be sure to consult your doctor. Despite the natural origin of these drugs, they may be incompatible with other drugs or cause side effects.
The following lists all kinds of tablets and mixtures that can be found in pharmacies.
1. Linh Chi-F
Lingzhi (or lin-zhi) is a mushroom whose official name is “lacquered tinder fungus.” In Asian countries it is also known as “reishi”, “reishi”, “mannentake”.
The tinder fungus usually grows on the trunks of dying trees and stumps. In Russia, this mushroom is also found, but only in certain regions, therefore it is listed in the Red Book as a rare species. In Vietnam, lingzhi is known as an effective remedy for the treatment of coronary artery disease, heart attacks, heart, stomach and lung diseases.
The dietary supplement Linh Chi-F is sold in capsule form and is used for preventive purposes. Essentially, Linh Chi-F is an extract of lingzhi mushrooms, which make up the palette of healing characteristics of the product. The course of administration allows you to normalize a number of processes in the body and strengthen the immune system. However, use does not have negative consequences.
A large package of 600 capsules will cost you an average of 300,000 VND.
2. Diabetna
As the name implies, this remedy is intended for the treatment of diabetes. This is a unique drug created on the basis of Gymnema Sylvestre Asclepiadaceae. This plant is found in the tropical forests of India and some other Asian countries. Since ancient times, it has been used to normalize blood sugar (it is often called a “sugar destroyer”).
Diabetna promotes insulin production, helps lower cholesterol and normalize weight. The drug is recommended both for the treatment of diabetes types 1 and 2, and for preventive purposes - especially for older people.
The average price is 95,000 VND for a pack of 40 capsules.
3. An Mạch Ích Nhân
A drug that normalizes the functioning of the cardiovascular system and stimulates the quality of blood supply throughout the body. Used to prevent atherosclerosis and lower cholesterol.
Like Diabetna, this remedy is created on the basis of Gymnema forest. In addition, it contains two-toothed strawflower and hawthorn.
The cost of a package of 50 capsules is about 99,000 VND.
4. Cao Atiso Sapa
Artichoke is another miraculous “ingredient” of Vietnamese medicine, which is useful for sleep disorders, to combat skin problems (especially acne), the gastrointestinal tract, and to cleanse the liver (the list goes on).
Interestingly, the artichoke never grew in Vietnam - it was brought here by the French in the century before last. Today it is grown in the highland region of Shapa in the north of the country. This area is considered the most environmentally friendly in all of Asia.
Particularly appreciated is the artichoke flower extract, which includes 100% natural ingredients. It takes 5 days to prepare it. Freshly ripened plants are used for extraction, since over time they lose their medicinal properties.
I recommend Cao Atiso Sapa, although you can find other artichoke-based preparations in your local pharmacies. But the fact is that in order to save money, the hood is often diluted with various components. They do not cause harm, but the benefits of using such products are lower.
Cao Atiso Sapa is sold in the form of “jelly” in 180 g jars. The cost of one jar is about 140,000-150,000 dong.
5. Eva Hoi Xuan
An effective feminine remedy for normalizing hormonal levels and complex therapy. In addition, it helps with chronic fatigue, sleep disorders and dizziness, and helps improve skin smoothness.
1 package (60 capsules) costs about 290,000 VND.
6. Fitogra-F (FITOGRA-F)
This is a remedy for inflammatory processes in the prostate gland; as a prophylactic agent it also stimulates male sexual activity. The drug is also suitable for women - to increase sexual satisfaction and delay the onset of menopause.
The product contains seahorse extract, deer antlers extract, ginseng, coriander, cinnamon and other natural ingredients.
It costs about 70,000 VND in pharmacies for a package of 20 tablets, or 160,000 for a box of 40 tablets.
7. An Nu Dan
Another useful product for men's and women's health based on phytocomponents. Helps prevent and treat fibroids and cysts (uterus, prostate), other benign tumors, negative changes in the menstrual cycle in women, and urinary problems in men.
Packaging – about 140,000 VND.
8. Cordyceps
Cordyceps mushroom is a kind of analogue of lingzhi mushrooms, which Vietnamese medicine uses to create general immune-strengthening drugs (natural antibiotic). But cordyceps extract is especially useful for men, as it has a positive effect on potency.
The price (in capsules) depends on the volume of packaging and the manufacturer, but on average does not exceed the prices for extracts from lychee mushrooms.
9. Glucosamine
Glucosamine is a popular remedy (capsules) for strengthening ligaments and joints; Doctors recommend it for the treatment of problems with cartilage and intervertebral discs. The concentration of the drug may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Glucosamine contains shark chondroitin, which restores cartilage and provides joint lubrication.
The price, depending on the packaging volume and concentration, varies from approximately 500,000 VND to 3,000,000.
10. Cebraton
In Nha Trang, you can also find high-quality drugs to improve brain function, memory concentration and combat stress. They are usually based on ginseng root extract, and Cebraton deserves special attention in this category. In addition to all of the above, it is also recommended to be used during recovery from strokes.
A package of 50 tablets costs about 170,000 VND.
Now, having an idea of the wealth of Viet Nam pharmaceuticals, you can search for the required products at the best prices on your own. The list goes on, but now you have better guidelines. It's time to pay attention to cosmetic products.
