Upper Spinal Flexibility Test

Before starting a set of exercises, you need to pass a neck flexibility test, which is part of the Butrimov complex. Perform these movements :

  1. Tilt your head down and touch your chin to your chest.
  2. Tilt your head back as far as possible while keeping your back straight.
  3. Tilt your head to the side, as close to your shoulder as possible.

If you experience any difficulties, discomfort or pain while performing the exercises, you should check the condition of your cervical spine with a doctor.

Performance

  1. The chin should be pulled forward. After this, it is pulled back, pressing firmly into the neck, as close to the spinal column as possible.
  2. The head is turned to the left shoulder, stretching the whole head towards the bump of the shoulder joint. In this case, you cannot separately stretch your forehead or chin.
  3. The head is tilted towards the chest, while simultaneously stretching the chin down. Then the movement seems to “flow down” further down towards the navel. Without breaks, your head should be raised up to the ceiling. You should stretch your face upward as far as possible, avoiding throwing your head back too much.
  4. They turn their head back, looking over their shoulder. Do not tilt your head up or down. At the same time, the spine should remain straight.
  5. The head is tilted forward 30-40° parallel to the floor. In the same position, turn your head in the direction of your shoulders. The gaze should be directed to the ceiling.
  6. Alternately, the head is tilted towards the shoulders. The shoulders should be touched by the ear. But it is forbidden to stretch the top of your head forward. The exercise should be performed parallel to the shoulder line, but not down towards the shoulder.
  7. You must keep your head straight. The gaze should be directed forward. Perform circular movements with your chin, imagining an imaginary circle. It is forbidden to tilt your head forward or backward. Only the chin should perform circular manipulations. The plane of the imaginary circle should be parallel to the floor.
  8. The head is tilted back 20-30°. Turn it alternately towards the shoulders. In this case, the gaze should be directed to the floor behind the shoulder.
  9. The head is tilted towards the chest, pointing the chin a little lower. In this position, you need to draw an arc with your chin. After this, the head is raised up to the shoulders. When the head is tilted, the top of the head should be stretched forward. In this case, the top of the head should not be directed down towards the shoulder, but parallel to it. After this, the head is straightened to a level position.

After completing the gymnastic exercises, the last two recommendations are combined together.

The head is described in a semicircle in front . But at the same time, throwing your head back is prohibited. At the same time, the head is tilted towards the shoulders, stretching the crown forward. Then they smoothly lower their head to their chest using a roll. The chin is tilted down towards the stomach. Only after this they raise their head, describing an arc along the chest.

Set of exercises

After warming up, you can proceed to doing exercises . But there is no need to chase results; work should proceed at a comfortable pace.

Sequence of execution and technique

  1. Starting position (hereinafter referred to as I.P.) – feet shoulder-width apart, back straight, hands on the belt. As you exhale, slowly pull your chin forward, then as you inhale, slowly return to IP. Repeat the exercise 4-6 times.
  2. I.P. similar to the previous exercise. As you exhale, turn your head to the left and slowly stretch your chin in the same direction. As you inhale, return to I.P. and repeat all movements to the right side. Do 4-6 times in each direction.
  3. I.P. similar. As you exhale, alternately turn your head to the right and left, trying to look back each time. Repeat 4-5 times in each direction.
  4. I.P. similar. As you exhale, tilt your head alternately to your right and left shoulder. Do 4-5 bends in each direction.
  5. I.P. as in previous exercises. Exhaling, gently tilt your head forward, trying to touch your chin to your chest, then return to IP. Repeat 5-6 times.
  6. I.P. similar. As you exhale, slowly tilt your head back, while trying to pull your chin up to feel a slight tension in the front of your neck. As you inhale, return to I.P. Repeat 5-6 times.

You need to finish the complex with relaxation. To do this, lie down for a couple of minutes with your eyes closed, focusing on your breathing. If this is not possible, you can rest standing or sitting.
