Cervical myogelosis symptoms treatment prevention

Often, sedentary work provokes pain in the occipital part of the skull and neck. Although this condition is provoked not only by insufficient activity, but also by other factors that are quite difficult to identify independently. Pain in these areas is a sign of a disease such as cervical myogelosis. Its treatment and preventive measures need to be known to everyone who is forced to lead a sedentary life due to modern living conditions.

It is prevention that can prevent the need for pathology therapy. If it begins, timely treatment is required to prevent pain and achieve stable remission of the disease. Then the disease will not be complicated by a serious problem, which is myofibrosis. With this complication, irreversible changes develop in the muscle fibers.

Causes

What is myogelosis, for what reasons does it develop? This is a kind of tightening of the muscles located in the neck.

Provocateurs for the development of pathology can be:

  1. Stress. Myogelosis can be caused by a one-time factor of experience, as well as less strong, but frequent stressful situations.
  2. Muscle strain. The problem appears after grueling sports activities or a long stay in an uncomfortable position due to professional activities (office work, drivers).
  3. Arterial hypertension. With such a factor that provoked the pathology, pain usually appears after waking up.
  4. Diseases of the spine affecting the cervical region. Such pathologies include osteochondrosis, proliferation of osteophytes and others.
  5. Myogelosis of the neck. An illness caused by a change in the protein muscle structure, after which it begins to thicken.
  6. Neuralgia of the nerve at the back of the head. The problem provokes paroxysmal pain that radiates to the lower jaw, neck and back.
  7. Cervical migraine. This is the name for vertebral artery pathology syndrome, which causes constant or paroxysmal pain. It radiates to the temple, the area of the eye sockets or the back of the head, accompanied by dizziness, hearing and vision impairment (soreness in the eyes, feeling of sand getting into them).

Symptoms

Symptoms of myogelosis may be similar to other diseases, so it is extremely important to conduct a complete diagnosis to determine further treatment tactics. A characteristic sign of the disease is pain and tension in the cervical muscles of the spinal region; the muscles responsible for extension are especially often affected.

The disease is accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • tightening of muscles in the cervical region with pain in the back of the head;
  • the appearance of pain in the shoulder joint with limited motor activity;
  • dizziness and attacks of nausea;
  • tension of nerve endings due to stressful situations;
  • rapid muscle fatigue as a result of poor posture or increased physical activity;
  • pain in the neck muscles after drafts.

In addition, throbbing pain that appears at the base of the head can cause increased skin sensitivity and photophobia.

Diagnostics

Myogelosis is a complication of the inflammatory process in the muscles called myositis.
Because of this, when there are cervical muscle pains, dizziness and stiffness or weakness of the muscles related to the shoulder girdle, you need to immediately visit a doctor for consultation. By palpating the muscles, the doctor is able to detect small lumps in them that respond with pain when pressed. Even pain-relieving procedures are not able to eliminate pain when pressed, much less soften dense areas.

Complications and prognosis

Myogelosis only at first glance does not seem to be such a significant problem, because compaction in the muscles is a reversible process, which means that its consequences are to some extent “simpler” than, for example, other common joint diseases - arthrosis. But if you ask a patient with myogelosis how he feels, he will talk about constant headaches, so strong that the usual rhythm of life is very seriously disrupted.

Of course, there is no need to talk about the quality of life under such circumstances. These patients feel pain not only during work, but also during rest, which is very dangerous. By the way, in some patients myogelosis is a provocateur of hypertension. The most typical complications of myogelosis include myofibrosis. How are both of these conditions different? With myogelosis, compactions in the muscles can be absorbed, which means they are reversible.

Myofibrosis differs in that the tissue changes its structure to fibrous. It is very similar to the one that forms with scars. Gradually, the direct elements of articulation - cartilage, ligaments and tendons - begin to be involved in the process. This tissue differs from muscle tissue in that it is practically inelastic, which means it can tear if there is an unfortunate fall, impact or movement.

Treatment

When there is a suspicion about tightening of the neck muscles or other pain syndromes in the back of the head arise, sudden movements of the head should be avoided. Such turns are fraught with sprains. With circular movements, as well as prolonged stay in a position with the head thrown back, you can “get” damage to the intervertebral discs. Because of this, you need to carefully monitor your own posture.

Treatment of the disease is performed using several methods. To achieve a positive result use:

  1. Manual therapy. Thanks to the use of special techniques, they activate blood circulation, restore the functioning of muscles, increasing their elasticity.
  2. Hirudotherapy. Since leeches suck blood from a person, blood flow is activated, inflammation is reduced, and swelling subsides. At the same time, the leeches inject the patient with a special substance that relieves pain by activating metabolism in the affected area.
  3. Healing mud. The impact of the healing components of mud activates the movement of lymph, normalizes metabolism, blood circulation, and eliminates the inflammatory process.
  4. Treatment with electric current, laser and magnet. When penetrated deeply into muscle tissue, these components of the therapy help eliminate inflammation by activating metabolism.
  5. Homeopathy. Local administration of drugs is performed using electric currents or ultrasound.
  6. Shock wave therapy. This treatment option uses acoustic waves to help activate blood circulation. Thanks to this, dense muscle areas relax, and their cellular restoration begins.

A positive result can be achieved by using homeopathic medicines Traumeel S, Coenzyme compositum or Target T in complex treatment - they help restore the functioning of cells by activating metabolism in the affected tissues. At the same time, these drugs eliminate inflammation. They are distinguished by a minimum of unwanted side effects, sometimes only individual intolerance to a certain natural ingredient is present.

Myogelosis of the cervical region

In order to understand why myogelosis of the cervical spine causes the development of severe headaches and how to prevent its development, you need to know and understand the mechanism of its formation.

So, myogelosis is a violation of the restoration of muscle protein, when some fibrils (structural units of muscle) and muscle fibers lose the ability to relax (a state of contracture) and undergo rigor, with partial hyaline degeneration. This occurs as a result of intense muscle loads, large or prolonged muscle tension, accompanied by physicochemical (impaired lability and excitability) and physiological (impaired muscle circulation) changes.

Characteristic muscle manifestations:

Reduced elasticity. Stiffness, limited mobility. Decreased strength. Small muscle tightness, quite painful. Contracture (loss or decrease in the ability to relax).

What is important to know about muscles for patients with muscle pathology, as well as athletes, dancers and other people associated with increased physical activity:

Myofibril, a structural unit of muscle, is essentially a miniature heart, like a micropump.

Millions of myofibrils, thanks to their constant vital activity, maintain optimal performance of the body, pumping huge amounts of blood, carrying oxygen and nutrients.

Each muscle is a separate organ, closely connected with the central nervous system through motor and sensory connections. The muscle is also a secretory organ, since during its functioning a large number of different mediators (biologically active substances that facilitate the transmission of nerve impulses between cells) are released. conversion of various substances into thermal energy (this is why we shiver when we start to freeze - the body’s thermal self-regulation turns on and we become warmer). All muscles are in close connection with the internal organs of the body using energetic and neural connections, which serves as the basis for nonspecific diagnosis and treatment.

Now let's move on to consider the development of pathology of the cervical spine.

Prevention

To prevent the development of painful sensations that provoke myogelosis, doctors recommend:

  1. Avoid hypothermia, avoid drafts;
  2. Control your posture;
  3. When working in an office environment, regularly organize breaks for warm-up;
  4. Sleep only on a flat, preferably orthopedic bed;
  5. Organize periods of physical activity for yourself;
  6. Avoid excessive overload;
  7. Prevent stressful situations.

It is enough to follow these simple recommendations to maintain your posture and not worry about neck pain.

However, if a problem arises, it should be solved using the recommendations of a qualified doctor.

Myogelosis - is this possible?

No. 45 762 Neuropathologist 07.27.2017

Hello. I've been having trouble breathing for 1.5 years now. I have had mild problems with breathing since about 2011. But it was a feeling of incomplete inspiration and passed quickly, and if I wrapped my arms around my ribs, it became easier. Then from September 2015 it got worse. At first it became difficult to climb to the 4th floor with bags, then it became difficult even without bags. On the second floor, shortness of breath began. But in December 2015 I fell ill with the flu and on the third day I had my first serious attack of suffocation! I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t move. Nothing. The doctor was called. He listened and did not hear any problems with the lungs. They said that breathing was weak, depressed and very rare. An ambulance was called. They gave several injections, but nothing helped. As a result, they left me in this state at home. The attack subsided after 5 hours. After 6 hours I was able to talk and drink water. The next day I got up and went to the doctor. They did an ECG, within normal limits (there is repolarization and sinus rhythm). They didn't say it from the heart. As a result, I did spirography twice with a test (one positive, the other negative), and a CT scan of the lungs (everything is fine there). And so I ran to the pulmonologist, then to the therapist and cardiologist. Then they sent me to the neurosis clinic. I was observed there for a week. And they sent me home, saying that I was not their patient. But I took antidepressants for 3 months - there was no benefit. In July 2016, I had another attack, but this time on the street. My husband carried me home in his arms and called an ambulance. Again they gave me 2 injections and gave me a bunch of pills. There were no changes. Then they gave a heating pad to my legs and my arms in a hot basin. It became a little easier and then we drank some hot tea and left. They threw up their hands and said they didn’t know anything. But a couple of days later the same thing happened again. The attack lasted for 7 hours. After it, I couldn’t go outside. And she could barely crawl around the apartment. And a week later she fell ill. I couldn’t get up, it was getting so bad. I could only breathe while lying down and not in all positions. It was as if there was a stone slab lying on his chest and a backpack with bricks on his back. Sitting up, I immediately began to choke. And it was impossible to get up. I stayed there for a month. Then neurologists, cardiologists, and pulmonologists were called to the house. They recommended taking cycloferon and vitamins. Really. It helped a little and I could already walk to the next room. Then the attack happened again, but now there was pain behind the sternum and numbness in the left arm. Especially 2 fingers and my back hurt between my shoulder blades. We've arrived. They did an ECG. They said it wasn't a heart attack. Something about repolarization again

And then they recommended paying attention to the spine. And start with an osteopath

Really. By the 4th session I already felt better. I walked around the apartment. And she could go down to the 1st floor. But even after the 10th session it didn’t go away. I feel better. But the pain and heaviness in my back did not go away. I had difficulty going out into the street (only with someone), because it was impossible to climb the stairs alone. I visited several more neurologists. I did an x-ray and an MRI of the thoracic and cervical spine. They said there are changes. And osteochondrosis is everywhere and you need to do a massage. As a result, I'm doing a massage now. The massage therapist says that I have myogelosis in 4 places. 2 places on the neck, one near the left shoulder blade closer to the spine and one near the right shoulder blade. They assure me that I am suffocating from this. I have already had 6 massage sessions, but there were improvements for a couple of days. And today I have a heaviness in my back again. I barely made it up the stairs. Even my head started spinning. And again it’s difficult to stand and walk. Although even sitting, it feels like bricks in my back. I can not understand. Why is this condition anyway? What to do next? Is it possible from myogelosis?
