Action of the substance
In total, experts identify 3 main mechanisms of influence of omega-3 on the human body. First of all, these substances have a strong influence on the process of strengthening bone tissue at a young age. Therefore, foods with polyunsaturated fatty acids will be very useful for children. But adults should not refuse to take them either. With age, it is omega-3 that helps reduce the risk of bone tissue breakdown, and it is this process that most often leads to a number of unpleasant diseases. If a person has a deficiency of this important substance in the body, problems with ligaments, joints and tendons are possible. Omega-3 improves the quality of intra-articular lubrication, which is the prevention of many ailments. If bones and joint tissue are normal, this will reduce the risk of dislocations and fractures in old age. Therefore, omega-3 foods should be consumed throughout your life.
In addition to their strengthening function, they slow down the breakdown of collagen fibers. This helps to get rid of unpleasant symptoms of degenerative-dystrophic changes in joint tissue.
- Does fish oil help with arthritis?
The third positive property of omega-3 is associated with a decrease in the severity of the inflammatory process. When using a certain set of products, you can get an effect that will be similar to the effect on the body of NSAIDs and painkillers.
Omega-3 for brain and memory
Omega-3 docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) may be called the queen of brain supplements. Its brain-protecting effects are the best studied. DHA makes up 50% of the mass of the neuronal cell membrane. That is why its intake into the body during pregnancy is so important for the formation of the child’s brain cells, then during breastfeeding and throughout life. In old age, DHA helps maintain brain activity and mental abilities. One study found that after 4 to 17 months of omega-3 supplementation, these fatty acids were useful as a weapon against the onset of Alzheimer's disease and cognitive decline in old age.

Omega-3 for joint problems
This substance is one of the main components of therapeutic therapy for pathologies of joint tissue. Experts have conducted a lot of research. All of them showed that when omega-3 fatty acids were consumed either from natural foods or as supplements to the regular diet, health was significantly improved. At the same time, a grocery list was created that people suffering from joint pathologies should definitely take on board.
With proper use of omega-3 products, excellent results can be achieved in the treatment of diseases associated with joint tissue. Moreover, this substance can enhance the effect of anti-inflammatory and painkillers.
Thus, the drugs will work more efficiently and longer. This approach is especially useful for those ailments that require the use of medication in large doses.
This happens, for example, in the presence of rheumatoid arthritis. This disease requires the use of large doses of anti-inflammatory drugs. They can significantly affect the body. To reduce the likelihood of side effects, patients are prescribed a special diet containing foods rich in omega-3. This has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the body and makes it possible to treat the disease without danger to other organs and systems.
The characteristics of the symptoms associated with joint diseases are such that some can be eliminated with a single diet, which includes foods high in polyunsaturated fatty acids. By consuming healthy meals and supplements on a regular basis, a person will forget about morning stiffness in the joints and severe pain. You won’t be able to completely get rid of the problem with diet alone, but its effective effect is always noticeable.
Treatment for pathologies of the musculoskeletal system often includes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. But with prolonged use, and especially in tablet form, they can have a negative effect on the gastrointestinal tract. Moreover, with frequent use of NSAIDs, a decrease in bone density is possible, and this is a sure path to osteoporosis. Omega-3 significantly reduces the negative impact of the active components of NSAIDs on the stomach and the body as a whole. Therefore, products and supplements with this substance must necessarily become part of the treatment complex.
The big problem with a disease such as arthrosis is that it cannot be completely eliminated. But it is possible to stop the destruction of joint tissue. For this purpose, special medications are prescribed. But their effectiveness is sometimes lower than that of omega-3. Therefore, this substance must be present in therapeutic therapy.

ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF OMEGA-3 PUFA IN DORSOPATHY
- Introduction
Diseases of the musculoskeletal system are widespread throughout the world. Almost a third of the adult population suffers from manifestations of vertebrogenic pathology. According to WHO, in the 21st century in developed countries, neck and back pain are widespread and reach epidemic proportions. The disease affects different age categories, but most of those affected are people of working age. Patients turn to neurologists already with pronounced neurological manifestations of vertebrogenic diseases. Approximately 50% of all neurological syndromes are caused by lesions of the spine.
The course of dorsopathy is often long-term and recurrent, which often ends in complications and early disability with transition to a chronic form, and a deterioration in the quality of life of patients. Overdiagnosis of common osteochondrosis is well known. Dorsopathies include degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the spine and paravertebral tissues. The basis of these diseases is a malnutrition of the vertebrae and tissues surrounding the spine (intervertebral discs, ligaments), and excessive loads on the spine.
In most cases, the symptoms of dorsopathy are expressed by dull, aching pain, accompanied by muscle spasms, increased back pain during physical activity, changing the position of the body, sneezing, playing sports, described as a “lumbago” in the back, a feeling of aching in the limbs, paralysis (complete loss of sensation ) or paresis (partial loss of sensation) in the arms or legs, depending on the area of localization of the pain syndrome.
There are two main types of back pain to consider: vertebrogenic and non-vertebrogenic.
1. One of the most common causes of vertebrogenic pain is spinal osteochondrosis - a degenerative-dystrophic disease of the spine affecting the intervertebral disc, ligaments, vertebral body, small joints and muscles.
2. The main cause of non-vertebrogenic back pain is myofascial pain syndromes, when the muscle is primarily affected.
The main reasons causing this pathology:
a) Anomalies in the development of the musculoskeletal skeleton (scoliosis, kyphosis), in which pronounced postural disorders are observed with excessive post-isometric tension in a number of muscle groups.
b) Postural overexertion in antiphysiological positions associated with the characteristics of professional activity.
c) Prolonged immobilization of muscles, for example, with dislocations and fractures, during deep sleep.
d) Hypothermia
e) Diseases of visceral organs and joints
f) Mental factors that should not be forgotten, because Emotional stress is always accompanied by anxiety and muscle tension. After the cessation of exposure to emotional stress, the muscles remain partially in a spasmodic state. The role of depression is significant, in which stereotypes of movements, posture, and posture change, which can lead to the formation of muscle spasms.
The formation of a vicious circle is characteristic: Stress – emotional-affective disorders – changes in the motor stereotype with excessive tension in a number of muscle groups – pain from muscle tension – increased stress – increased emotional-affective disorders – deepening of the violation of the motor stereotype.
Currently, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and in particular Omega-3 fatty acids, have become widely used in medical practice [1]. The role and importance of Omega-3 fatty acids are presented in various works [2-6]. The main representatives of Omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The main functions of Omega-3 PUFAs are their participation in the formation of phospholipids of cell membranes [2,3,4] of all organs and tissues and the synthesis of eicosanoids (biologically active substances - tissue hormones): prostacyclins, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes, which prevent the development of thrombosis and inflammation.
Recent studies confirm the important role Omega-3 PUFAs play in ensuring the vital functions of the human body:
- regulate and normalize lipid metabolism. Reduce the level of triglycerides, low-density and very low-density lipoproteins, increase the level of high-density lipoproteins;
- prevent the development of inflammation of the vascular wall and the formation of blood clots;
- support and strengthen the immune system;
- reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases;
- have vasodilating and antiarrhythmic effects.
All of the above makes it possible to use Omega-3 PUFAs for the prevention and treatment of not only cardiovascular diseases, but also lesions of the musculoskeletal system. As you know, Omega-3 PUFAs are practically not synthesized in the human body, so they must be supplied in sufficient quantities and in a balanced composition with food products. The main source of Omega-3 PUFAs are special varieties of fish from cold seas (salmon, tuna, anchovy, cod).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of NFO Omega-3 with lemon flavor in outpatient settings in patients with severe neurological manifestations of vertebrogenic diseases (dorsopathy).
II . Materials and methods
The study included 30 patients with back pain of vertebrogenic origin from 35 to 65 years old, 24 women, 6 men. They received the drug NFO Omega-3 with lemon flavor, 240 ml bottles from Norwegian Fish Oil (Norway), the official distributor in Russia is the company ODAS Pharma. Patients took 1 tsp. (5 ml) x 1 time per day with meals in the morning for 48 days.
The inclusion criteria for the study were:
- Pain intensity on visual analogue scale (VAS)
- Neurological examination data
- MRI data of the spine
- Biochemical blood test (cholesterol)
- Beck Depression Inventory
At the same time, a control group was observed - 30 patients with vertebrogenic back pain who were on standard therapy without taking Omega-3 with lemon flavor, aged from 35 to 65 years.
In all patients, MRI revealed spinal osteochondrosis of varying severity. There were 7 patients with acute pain syndrome, 15 with moderate severity, and 8 with moderate pain.
III . Results and discussion
Patients with back pain of varying intensity were observed for 48 days; neurological status, complaints, medical history, and imaging data (MRI of the spine) were assessed.
In the neurological status of patients receiving NFO Omega-3 with lemon flavor, one can note a decrease in the severity of pain in 16 cases, complete regression of pain in 14 cases.
It should be noted that the drug was used in complex treatment during the first 2 weeks along with NSAIDs, B vitamins, vascular drugs, and then was used as monotherapy. In the control group, patients received standard therapy - only NSAIDs, B vitamins, and vascular drugs.
An increase in mood and performance was noted in all 30 patients receiving Omega-3 PUFAs. All patients noted a positive general tonic effect. In 19 patients with initially elevated cholesterol levels, normal levels were noted.

IV . conclusions
1. During the study, the drug NFO Omega-3 with lemon flavor showed its effectiveness and, therefore, can be used in the daily practice of neurologists in the treatment of dorsopathy. The advantages of this drug are its excellent tolerability and good results shown in the treatment of patients in whom back pain was relieved.
2. There was a more than 2-fold decrease in the severity of pain in patients with dorsopathy on the VAS scale in the study group compared to the control group (25%).
3. The drug had a positive effect on improving the condition of depressed patients with dorsopathy. After treatment, patients noted a decrease in depression, positive changes in well-being, increased performance and improved concentration. Patients noted a decrease in thoughts about the loss of meaning in life, the purposelessness of existence, and dissatisfaction with the results achieved, which is especially important in the conditions of outpatient management of depressed patients. Normalization of sleep was also noted and the severity of somatic complaints decreased. There was a decrease in the overall Beck depression test score.
Thus, the use of NFO Omega-3 with lemon flavor in patients with dorsopathy allows one to correct the patient’s condition: inflammation and pain are reduced, and emotional disorders are corrected.

Natural Sources of Omega-3 Fatty Acids
In order to get enough of this element, you need to establish proper nutrition. Omega-3 may be present in some dietary supplements, but in its natural form this beneficial element is absorbed better.
This is why specialists often prescribe therapeutic diets to patients. They should include fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and tuna. But you need to keep in mind that the benefits of these products will be maximum only if the fish is fresh and has not been frozen. At low temperatures, the amount of omega-3 fatty acids decreases. Moreover, the level of useful elements largely depends on the nutrition of the fish itself. Those specimens that were bred in artificial reservoirs and received little food will be less useful than those caught in the wild.
- Use of badger fat for joints, composition and effects of the drug
There are quite a lot of omega-3-PUFAs in canned foods that are prepared with the addition of vegetable oil. And smoking and salting can significantly reduce the level of useful elements in the product.
In addition to fish, huge amounts of omega-3 can be found in flaxseed and olive oil. Therefore, it is these vegetable fats that are recommended for use in dietary nutrition. An excellent solution would be to add fresh vegetable salads seasoned with olive oil to your regular menu.
You can compensate for the lack of polyunsaturated fatty acids by regularly consuming nuts and sesame seeds. A specialist can suggest other products that will be useful for omega-3 deficiency.
Fish oil capsules can be used as a supplement to your main diet. But experts strongly recommend carefully checking the expiration date of the drug, as well as storing it correctly. Otherwise, instead of useful elements, the body will receive a set of carcinogens. Supplements rich in omega-3 include badger oil, which is especially useful for arthrosis, and shark oil. These products must be consumed correctly, as they have some contraindications.
What should you pay attention to when choosing the right Omega?
Raw material quality
There are two types of fish raw materials: from the back (carcass) of fish (Fish body oil) or from fish liver (Fish liver oil). It is not recommended to choose fish liver oil as a raw material, since toxic substances can accumulate in the liver that cannot be completely removed by filtration.
Compound
- The percentage of EPA/DHA should be at least 60%.
- The quantitative ratio of EPA/DHA acids is also important; 2:1 is considered the most effective.
- According to WHO recommendations, the daily requirement for Omega-3 is from 500 to 1000 mg.
Presented form
Manufacturers produce Omega-3-based drugs in three forms:
- Natural triglycerides
are the form that occurs in nature. In our body it undergoes complete and rapid metabolism, that is, it is completely absorbed. The concentration of Omega-3 in them is small, and such fractions do not undergo a thorough degree of purification to remove heavy metal impurities. Omega-3 in liquid form is always, as a rule, represented by triglycerides. TG marking. - Ethyl esters
are a synthesized substance, the result of industrial processing of fish oil with ethyl alcohol in order to obtain a high concentration of Omega-3 in it and remove toxins. This form is safer than TG, but is less absorbed. Marking EE, ethyl esters. - Reesterified triglycerides
. This form is resistant to oxidation. The processed raw materials are quickly digested and retain up to 90% of fatty acids. rTG marking - Phospholipids
. This is by far the most expensive form obtained from krill oil. It has the highest concentration of Omega-3, is quickly metabolized and is almost completely absorbed. Another significant advantage of this form is its content of astaxanthins, powerful antioxidants. Safe for pregnant women, as shellfish do not accumulate mercury. Ph marking

Degree of purification
Fish tend to accumulate heavy metals in their bodies, and the larger the fish, the more toxins it contains. The pharmaceutical industry has GMP and GOED quality and safety standards that guarantee a high degree of purification.
When will the positive effect appear?
After starting to use omega-3 fatty acid products and supplements, patients often ask specialists about when to expect improvements. There is no exact answer here, since everything depends on the individual characteristics of the body and the degree of neglect of the disease.
In most cases, with problems with joint tissue, the first improvements appear within 2 weeks. A person who previously often felt stiffness in movements will feel quite normal.
For better results, experts recommend undergoing treatment courses. It is enough to use the drug or follow a special diet for 3 weeks, after which you can lead a normal lifestyle for a week. Then the treatment continues.
Omega-3 for vision
Omega-3s are recognized as the most important essential component of good vision. They help slow down various age-related vision problems. For example, they significantly reduce the likelihood of age-related macular degeneration, the area of greatest visual acuity in the eyeball. Omega-3s protect the retina from inflammation and oxidation, prevent the development of neurovascular eye disorders, improve eye condition under increased visual stress, and help reduce the risk of dry eye syndrome.

How to use badger fat
This component is often included in the complex of therapeutic therapy in the presence of a number of diseases. At the same time, badger fat is able to saturate the body with important elements and vitamins, so it can be used for problems with joints, pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular diseases. When used correctly, badger fat can even cure a runny nose and acute respiratory infections.
For problems with the musculoskeletal system and for the treatment of pathologies of joint tissue, different methods are used, but badger fat is indispensable. It is used for rubbing. This method of use is the only one acceptable for children. Badger fat is not prescribed internally until children are 5 years old.
Badger fat for arthrosis cannot be used for gallstone disease, liver problems, pregnancy and lactation. Before starting treatment for a child, you should consult a specialist.
Features of using shark oil
Omega-3-unsaturated fatty acids are contained in shark liver oil, the beneficial properties, composition and use of which have an extremely positive effect on the condition of the body. With its help, the body receives a lot of useful vitamins and microelements, and its defenses are strengthened. PUFAs are often used to treat arthritis, osteochondrosis, diabetes, dermatitis and kidney diseases.
The scope of application of shark oil is very wide, but you should not use it without a doctor’s recommendation. It is contraindicated in pancreatitis, obesity and certain diseases of the cardiovascular system.

Our readers successfully use Sustalaif to treat joints. Seeing how popular this product is, we decided to bring it to your attention. Read more here...
The exact cause of the disease is unknown. It is believed that the leading role is played by an autoimmune disorder in the body, in which antibodies are produced against healthy cells. In other words, the body works towards self-destruction.
An autoimmune disorder in which joints destroy themselves is called rheumatoid arthritis.
Risk factors are:
- genetic predisposition to immune disorders;
- severe infectious diseases (measles, mumps, hepatitis, herpes zoster);
- unfavorable living conditions (hypothermia, stress).
Arthritis of the rheumatoid type is juvenile in nature. It usually appears in adolescence or young age up to 40 years.

Symptoms increase acutely or gradually, expressed as:
- morning fatigue and weakness;
- stiffness of movement after prolonged rest;
- joint pain of varying intensity when moving;
- symmetrical articular damage (polyarthritis) with gradual deformation;
- muscle spasms;
- cold symptoms (fever, chills, sweating, loss of appetite and weight loss).
The progressive course of the disease often leads to chronic arthrosis, causes complications from the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and often ends in disability. Constant medical monitoring of the condition and compliance with all the rheumatologist’s instructions are required.
Composition and effect on the body
Solgar's Triple Omega contains polyunsaturated fatty acids in the amount of 950 milligrams.
The omega-3 complex, which has a hypolipidemic effect, is represented by the following substances:
- Eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA (504 mg) is an essential acid found in animal tissue lipids, fish oil, shellfish, and diatomite brown algae.
- Docosohexanoic acid or DHA (378 mg) is an essential component of the brain, eyes and skin of the human body. It is synthesized in the human body provided there is a sufficient supply of alpha-linolenic acid.
In the complex, the tripled concentration of PUFAs act according to the following mechanism [1]:
- improves the moisture content of cell membranes;
- increases the functional functioning of cellular receptors;
- improves the interaction of lipoproteins and enzymes, increases lipoprotein metabolism;
- slows down the formation of triglycerides in liver cells;
- enhances the oxidation of fatty acids, which significantly reduces triglyceride levels;
- increases the number of high-density lipoproteins;
- has an antiplatelet effect;
- has a cardiotropic effect that improves heart function.
EPA and DHA compounds have a complex effect on the human body. This is expressed as follows:
- Helps with ADHD effectively and without side effects.
- Reduce clinical symptoms of anxiety without the effect of addiction to the drug.
- Reduce pain and muscle stiffness due to osteoarthritis. They allow you to significantly reduce the intake of NSAIDs and reduce the risk of complications on the liver and kidneys.
- They reduce the level of inflammatory proteins in patients with asthma and improve clinical lung function.
- Help relieve severe depression.
- They have prebiotic properties, help restore the intestinal microflora and protect it from the effects of antibiotics.
- They reduce blood cholesterol levels, normalize blood pressure and effectively reduce complications of heart disease.
- Eliminate inflammation in brain tissue, resulting in fewer migraines.
- The omega-3 metabolite resolvin E1 reduces inflammation and significantly improves the condition of psoriasis.
- Effectively relieves pain and restores joint mobility in rheumatoid arthritis.
- Reduces inflammation of the meninges, therefore they are the best remedy for traumatic brain injuries. [2]
Thanks to a modern high-tech method for extracting omega-3 acids from fish raw materials, it is possible to obtain a product of high purity, free of mercury.
A safe composition is a guarantee of minimizing the harmful effects of dietary supplements on the human body.
Omega-3 for the cardiovascular system
Today, the beneficial effect of omega-3 acids on the condition of the heart and blood vessels has been reliably established. They slow down the processes of thrombus formation, improve the rheological properties of blood, heart rhythm, reduce the tone of the vascular wall and blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart attacks, coronary heart disease, coronary heart disease, and prevent inflammation. Good dosages of omega-3 help control cholesterol levels. The beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system became known back in the 1970s after research conducted by scientists. The subjects consumed large amounts of omega-3 fats from seafood to determine their negative health effects. But the results were surprising: the study actually did not identify a single cardiovascular disease. It was also found that the high consumption of omega-3 by northern peoples (Eskimos) reduces fat consumption, and, as a result, their rate of cardiovascular diseases is extremely low*.

Characteristics of rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is an acute autoimmune systemic disease that damages the connective tissues of the body. Against this background, inflammatory processes begin to progress, affecting not only the joints, but also the tissues of the internal organs. This pathology cannot be completely cured. Therapy is mainly aimed at relieving symptoms and preventing relapses. Most often the disease affects:
- women over 40 years old;
- men over 60 years old;
- children under 16 years of age.
It is noteworthy that women suffer from this pathology 3-5 times more often than men. Adolescents and children may develop the juvenile type of the disease. The disease most often affects the musculoskeletal system, kidneys, cardiovascular system, and liver. Therapy cannot be delayed, since as the pathology progresses, the risk of death will increase due to the impact on vital systems and organs.
As the disease develops, there is a sharp deterioration in the patient’s condition, a decrease in motor activity, which can lead to disability and, over time, to the death of the patient. The disease destroys connective tissue, leading to the abrasion of the cartilage shell. Articular fragments undergo atrophy and erosion. The result is the development of acute inflammation, accompanied by:
- intense pain;
- swelling in the area of the affected joint;
- redness of the skin over the joint;
- a sharp restriction of mobility of the affected area.
Since the disease cannot yet be cured, therapy is aimed primarily at suppressing the main symptoms and achieving a stage of long-term remission. Sulfasalazine is responsible for this effect.
Description of the product
The anti-inflammatory drug Plaquenil is the active substance Hydroxychloroquine (C18H26ClN3O), a derivative of aminoquinoline. Designed to relieve inflammation during autoimmune reactions of the body.
It has not only an anti-inflammatory, but also an immunostimulating effect.
It is used in the treatment of malaria, the negative effects of UV rays, skin diseases, systemic diseases, chronic inflammation of the joints (periarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis).
Omega-3 for beauty
Omega-3 can be called the guardians of our youth and beauty. It has been scientifically proven that consuming omega-3 acids reduces hair loss, makes nails stronger, and due to the fact that omega-3 acids retain collagen, the skin maintains its elasticity. They also control skin hydration, prevent acne and premature skin aging, and protect it from the harmful effects of sunlight.

Diet for rheumatoid arthritis: nutritional advice from doctors
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease. It is characterized by damage to small joints and the development of arthritis in them, which causes further deformation of the joint and disruption of its functioning.
As a rule, the disease begins at a fairly young age (after 35 years). Recent medical studies have shown that rheumatoid arthritis affects those people who have a genetic predisposition to it. However, the exact cause of the disease has not yet been established.
Despite all the “delights” of the disease, the patient can live a full life for a long time. To do this, you should take the necessary medications, engage in physical therapy and adhere to a certain diet.
What does world medicine think about diet?
It so happens that in different countries of the world, rheumatologists and nutritionists recommend completely different nutritional principles to their patients. They may be somewhat similar to each other, and in some cases they may be radically different.
So, there is the Dong diet, which strictly prohibits the consumption of many foods and herbs, for example:
- citrus fruits;
- red meat;
- fermented milk products.
Proper nutrition for rheumatoid arthritis
The connection between diet and RA has been studied since the 1930s. Celiac disease, an autoimmune disease in which gluten from foods triggers inflammation in the intestines, skin and joints, has shed some light on this mystery.
Gradually, scientists discovered other provoking factors. But the path to understanding the connection between diet, arthrosis and rheumatoid arthritis turned out to be much more complex and unpredictable.
Leading rheumatologists at Johns Hopkins University (USA) warn: avoid unproven extreme diets and dubious miracle products whose manufacturers promise too much.
Basics of proper nutrition for joints:
- eat a variety of foods;
- balance your diet with physical activity;
- eat more whole grains, fruits and vegetables;
- limit fats, especially saturated fats and cholesterol;
- be restrained with sweets and alcohol.
American rheumatologists recommend “natural food.” By avoiding processed foods (sausages, pates, baked goods), you will kill two birds with one stone. First, cut down on trans fats, sugar and salt. Secondly, you will receive more fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Start from a simple fact: good health and a toned figure provide great opportunities for the rehabilitation and treatment of joints.
