At the age of 63, Mikhail Sudas was diagnosed with grade 4 arthrosis of the knee joint based on MRI results. At this stage, cartilage is destroyed, the joint space narrows, which causes severe pain and restrictions in movement. Therefore, traumatologists immediately offered Mikhail Leonovich surgery to replace the joint. But he chose a different method - treatment with his own stem cells at the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences.
This effective and popular technique in the world was recently tested in Belarus and approved by the domestic Ministry of Health. It is not yet so widespread in our country. Therefore, we decided to go through the entire treatment path with Mikhail Sudas and see the effectiveness of the method, as they say, live.
Could stem cell therapy be an alternative to joint replacement?
Due to wear of the joint or damage to it by disease, endoprosthetics is often necessary. Stem cell therapy may be an alternative to such surgery. However, it should be understood that cell therapy is not a panacea and will not always help. For example, for arthrosis, stem cell treatment is indicated at stages 1–3.
Stage 4 arthrosis is an absolute indication for endoprosthetics; cell therapy at this stage will only serve to delay joint replacement.
YOUR YOUTH IS IN YOUR BLOOD!
How to carry out the procedure:
Plasma is isolated in a centrifuge into which special tubes containing the patient’s blood are placed. As the centrifuge rotates, centrifugal force separates whole blood into components along a density gradient. Simply put, particles with a lower specific gravity shift to the center, while particles with a higher specific gravity remain at the periphery. This way we can isolate the platelet mass we need for injection. This whole process takes 5-10 minutes.
This volume is approximately 10 milliliters. This amount of blood is comparable to the amount of fluid that enters the body with one or two sips of coffee or tea. It is completely imperceptible to the body and does not deplete its resources.
Blood is taken from a vein in the elbow. No special preparation is required. It is enough to abstain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours. The procedure is performed on an empty stomach, and smoking is not recommended before donating blood.
Injections of platelet autoplasma obtained from the patient’s blood are carried out inside the joint, into the muscles (in the area of pain points), as well as into the tissues surrounding the joint (ligaments, tendons, joint capsule). The procedure for injections of platelet-rich plasma lasts 10-15 minutes under local anesthesia.
Where do stem cells come from?
Stem cells can be collected using several methods:
- Lipofilling. This method of cell collection involves therapy with autologous material. In other words, the patient's own stem cells are used. To do this, a puncture of adipose tissue is performed. Typically, fat is taken from the abdomen or thighs using a syringe. For the procedure, a small amount of fat is enough, from which stem cells are subsequently separated using a centrifuge.
- Collection from peripheral blood. Apheresis is used to obtain stem cells from peripheral blood. The patient is connected to a machine through which his blood flows. The device filters stem cells from the blood and collects them in a separate reservoir.
- Isolation of cells from umbilical cord blood. If you or your close relatives (subject to compatibility with your phenotype) have umbilical cord blood collected at birth stored in a cryobank, you can use it as a source of stem cells.
- Obtaining cells from bone marrow. To do this, under anesthesia, the doctor makes a puncture from the patient's (or donor's) femur or sternum with a syringe.
- Obtaining cells from an aborted fetus. Using fetal cells from a fetus extracted at 4-6 weeks of gestation.
Hospital No. 13 began treating joints using cellular technologies
City Clinical Hospital No. 13 began treating joints using cellular technologies. Innovative techniques have become an effective alternative to surgical intervention.
The procedures are carried out in the new trauma department No. 2, which opened at the hospital in January of this year. Treatment using cellular technologies is prescribed to people who have cartilage defects, traumatic damage to the capsular-ligamentous apparatus, as well as inflammatory and degenerative processes in it.
To treat joints, orthopedic traumatologists use two methods. The first is to use stem cells from the patient's own adipose tissue. First, the doctor takes tissue through liposuction and isolates a cellular product that has powerful regenerative, immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. The cells are then injected into the damaged joint.
The second technology is treatment with plasma from the patient’s own blood . For complete recovery, three to five injections are required, which are administered into the joint with an interval of one to two weeks. After the first procedure, inflammation is noticeably reduced and pain is reduced.
Cellular technologies make it possible to speed up the process of restoration of damaged tissue inside the joint several times.
“Both procedures are carried out free of charge under the compulsory health insurance policy. More than 100 people have already completed the treatment successfully. The results turned out to be impressive, so we plan to continue to use cell technologies on patients who go to the hospital with impaired function or joint structure,” said Sergei Arakelov, chief physician of the city clinical hospital No. 13 of the capital’s Department of Health.
Moscow continues to introduce a new standard of clinics, equip hospitals with modern equipment and use new medical technologies. Today, more than 80 percent of diagnostic equipment in the capital is digital. This allows you to integrate equipment into a single digital medical space and improve the quality of diagnostics. In the coming years, the city plans to purchase over six thousand pieces of equipment, including dozens of angiographs, several hundred machines for computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, thousands of ultrasound machines, mammographs and other equipment.
Innovative medical technologies help doctors detect severe cancer in the early stages . As part of clinical guidelines, the list of medical indications for positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography has been expanded in recent years. The number of high-tech studies that can identify malignant neoplasms has increased almost 13 times
In addition, new techniques are used in surgery. Doctors of the hospital named after V.V. Veresaeva is now treating foot deformities through miniature incisions in the skin using unique instruments about two millimeters in size. This allows you to effectively treat bone tissue without disturbing the integrity of the surrounding soft tissue, blood vessels and nerves. And at the Morozov Children's Hospital they began to use 3D equipment. It allows you to perform minimally invasive operations on the organs of the abdominal cavity, pelvis, urinary system and chest. This reduces the amount of blood loss from patients and also increases the speed and accuracy of the surgeon’s actions.

How effective is treatment for KS joints and what results should be expected?
We can speak with confidence about the effectiveness of stem cells in the treatment of fractures and other injuries. Therapy has proven itself best in this area. The treatment of arthrosis and arthritis cannot be assessed unambiguously, since both arthrosis and arthritis are collective names for entire groups of diseases.
These diseases have different origins and degrees of development. In addition, the general condition of the patient—his physical health, age—plays an important role. Therefore, where stem cell therapy for joint disease is a salvation for one patient, for another it will only delay surgical intervention.
Healthy joints – YOUR BLOOD WILL HELP YOU!!!
Older people most often experience joint problems. The older a person gets, the weaker the recovery abilities of his body, the more difficult it is to start the regeneration mechanism. Therefore, special techniques exist for the treatment of arthritis and deforming arthrosis of the knee joints in older people.
Injections of platelet plasma into the treatment area help reduce inflammation, relieve pain and restore range of motion in the joint. Injections are carried out into the knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, ankle, and wrist joints.
GIVE YOURSELF MOVEMENT WITHOUT PAIN!!! Today, autologous plasma in orthopedics is successfully used to treat:
- Arthritis
- Arthrosis I-II degree
- Osteochondrosis of the spine
- Periarthritis of the joints inflammation in the joints
- Osteoarthritis
- Ostearthrosis
- Tendon tendonopathy
- Muscle spasms
- Injuries (sprains, dislocations, bruises, fractures)
How much does stem cell treatment for joints cost?
- Arthrosis of the knee joint (gonarthrosis) – from 19,590 €
- Arthritis of the ankle joint – from 19,700€
- Arthrosis of the elbow joint – from 19,700€
- Arthrosis of the shoulder joint – from 7,180 €

SAFELY! EFFECTIVE!
Procedures using the methods are practically painless, easy to use and do not take much time. These methods do not require rehabilitation, allowing the patient to lead his usual lifestyle.
Plasma therapy and the YCELLBIO PRP method are effective as monotherapy and are perfectly combined with classical types of treatment (such as massage, electrical stimulation, physiotherapy, etc.). Incorporating methods of using autologous plasma into a treatment program helps reduce the toxicological burden on the body caused by taking medications, which often cause side effects and allergies, as they help speed up the body's healing process.
